Flower Festival 2017!

The 2017 29th Festival of Flowers will be held over the Bank Holiday weekend May 27th, 28th and 29th. The Festival was nominated for the Observer 1066 Community Awards in October 2016 and we were delighted to win the class linked to the Best Community Event. A lovely glass trophy was awarded to our church and will be on display at the Festival. Please do book the date and we hope to see you. See more on our Events page.

‘The Rainbow Collection’

‘The Rainbow Collection’ was the title of this year’s festival, and Sue and Joan once again filled the church with colour and fragrance. Although, because of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, visitor numbers were slightly down, but over 900, and the money raised grossed £3835 thanks to the generosity of our visitors, and once again we are able to donate £1000 each to our two beneficiaries, Huntington’s Disease group, and Macmillan Cancer Support, whilst still keeping back enough money to put on next year’s very special 25th Anniversary Festival of Flowers, and have some over for church projects.

Although the Ladies’ Supper Club is the prime mover in the Festival, it would not be possible to put it on without the help of so many folk from the congregation and outside of it, together making a superlative team. Visitors remark on the wonderful friendly welcome they receive, and the feeling of warmth within the church. We are known also for the quality and quantity of our lunches and teas, and this is all down to Wendy Gorham and her team. Our young waiters and waitresses were complimented on their service and all received tips from satisfied customers!

God’s love is shown to all who came, through the beauty of the flowers and through His people within Christchurch.

Thank you messages and some of the many comments received:

A BIG Thank you from Wendy Gorham: to everyone who helped in whatever way during the Flower Festival weekend. We all have different talents – from washing up to cooking, from welcoming visitors to serving on the stalls, from cleaning to waiting on tables, from counting the funds raised to emptying the rubbish – all a vital part in making the festival such a success. Thank you to all and roll on the 25th Flower Festival next year!

A tribute from Ian Wales: "I don’t think I have enjoyed myself as much in anything ministry for a long time. I was doing the thing I enjoy most which is meeting people. Well done everyone at Christchurch."

Just a thought to bear in mind: 2012 will I am sure produce another wonderful Flower Festival, but 2013 will be the 25th year, well, organisers, get your thinking caps on, 25th anniversaries are silver - How do we have a SILVER FLOWER FESTIVAL?
